Realising the need for a manufacturing presence on the Pacific rim, Beaulieu of Australia was formed after the purchase of Sterling Carpet Mills Pty Ltd by the principals of Beaulieu of America in 1995.

Sterling Carpet Mills had been in operation in Queensland since 1973, importing and distributing carpets, and from 1987 manufacturing residential and commercial carpets from natural and man-made fibres.

In 1998, Beaulieu of Australia invested $4.0mil in its own yarn extrusion facility, giving the company the ability to produce its own polypropylene yarn requirements, allowing greater flexibility, reduced lead times and more competitive pricing for finished carpet. This was further enhanced with the purchase of a second extruder in 2005.
